Department of Computer Science. 

The Department of Computer Science was established in 2014, and the number of students applying for this course have increases yearly, as Gasha offers a course that is unrivaled in the region. 

In the globalized digital age, it is considered a hinderance if people are not computer literate.  The Computer Department ensures that students are prepared for the digitized road ahead. 

Aims and mission

The aim of Gasha Institute is to encourage learners to develop an understanding of the fundamental principles of networking and how computer networks are employed in a range of contexts. 

The Department’s main objective is to improve the quality of education, and ensure better learning conditions by facilitating students with all the requirements to apply for any job in the digitized world. 

We will provide students with astounding knowledge that enables them to administer a variety of client and server operating systems, and improve websites using various kinds of web developing languages.  They will be trained to proficient web designers and create database systems, and other types of software. 

What students will learn

Students will learn many computer science and information technology related subjects, theoretically and practically. 

They will understand computer hardware and software components, use Microsoft office, the Internet (such as send formal emails) and create databases, upon completion of the second year. 

They will know about configuring network routers and switches, administrating and troubleshooting computer networks.

They will be able to create and administer databases using SQL and other professional programs, and develop new applications using different language programming.

Our students will acquire outstanding knowledge about how to create and design professional websites. They also learn about mobile technologies, GSM systems, and how communication devices work.

Curriculum

The department of computer science has many areas of interests in a wide range of topics that bring motivation to students, teachers and researchers. The curriculum of ICDL program is taught in the first and second stage of the department as the following:

The first year, students study as follows:

  • Basic concepts of IT
  • Using computers and Managing files
  • Word processing
  • Web browsing and Communication

 

The second year, students study as follows:

  • Presentations
  • Spreadsheets
  • Databases
  • Multimedia and Digital Imaging

The Third year program consists of:

  • Workstation administration
  • Setting up Linux and Microsoft Windows server 2008 operating systems
  • Introduction to Visual basic programming language
  • First and second parts of CCNA
  • HTML.

In the fourth and fifth year the curriculum goes more deeply into specification and students can choose upon their desire one of the three offered sub departments.

  • Third part of CCNA
  • Microsoft Windows server 2008 administration
  • Security for Microsoft operating systems
  • GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication)
  • Management Information System

In forth year, the program of web developing department as follows:

  • CSS
  • PHP with ODBC and text file
  • Java Script
  • Adobe Flash Player
  • Security for Web
  • Management Information System

In forth year, the program of programming department as follows:

  • C++
  • Java
  • SQL server 2008
  • Security for Databases
  • Management Information System

What students learn / do

Students of the department of computer science learn many computing science and information technology related subjects in both theoretical and practical aspects. They are divided into groups and asked to provide a variety of assignments such as projects, posters, classwork, homework, seminars and solving problems.

They also get used to learning computer hardware and software components, using products of Microsoft office, using Internet and sending/receiving emails professionally and they can easily create databases after they complete the second year.

They will obtain a great knowledge about computer networks such as, configuring network routers and switches, administrating and troubleshooting computer networks.

They will be able to create and administer databases using SQL and other professional programs. As well as, developing new applications using different language programming.

Our students acquire an outstanding knowledge about how to create and design professional websites. They also learn about mobile technologies, GSM systems, and how communication devices work.
